Abstract: A procedure for reliability-related quality programming is devel oped to fi ll existing gaps in software de sign and development so that a quality programming plan can be achieved. This study investigates the tradeoff between system reliability improvement and resource con sumption through the management phase. A software reliability-to cost relation is developed from both a software reliability-related cost model and software redundancy models with common-cause failures. The software reliability optimization p… Show more

“…4. Table 1 The input data for different parameters of COTS products Cost c 11 = (7,9,11,13) c 21 = (8,9,12,19) c 31 = (7,8,9,14) c 41 = (7,9,13,19) The input data with respect to the various model parameters of the COTS products are given in Table 1. Due to compatibility issues among available COTS products for different modules, it is required that if module 4 chooses the second COTS product (sc 42 ), then module 1 must choose either the first COTS product (sc 11 ) or the third COTS product (sc 13 ).…”

“…Initial research on optimization models of the COTS products selection problem assumed that complete and precise data are available for the various model parameters. Chi et al [7] formulated the software reliability optimization problem as a mixed-integer programming problem and solved it using a branch-and-bound technique. Zahedi and Ashrafi [40] developed a software reliability allocation model that determines how reliable software modules and programs must be to maximize the user's utility while taking the financial and technical constraints of the system into consideration.…”

“…(12), we can derive the upper bound of the objective function by setting c ij to its upper bound (C ij ) U α , ∀i, j. Since, model (12) is to find the maximum of all the maximum objective values, we can insert the constraints of level 1 into level 2 and simplify the two-level mathematical problem to the conventional one-level problem as follows:…”
