Snoring Can Be Reduced When the Nasal Airflow Is Increased by the Nasal Dilator Nozovent
Abstract: The ability to breath through the nose can be increased above normal by dilating the narrow nasal valve area with the plastic nasal device Nozovent. For 10 nights, 10 patients used Nozovent every other night, and the sleeping partners of the patients judged the snoring sound level using a snoring score. The results showed a significant decrease in snoring, from moderate to slight, when Nozovent was used, or from a barely tolerable to a tolerable noise level. In about 1 night out of 4, when the nostrils were di…

“…Snoring is most prevalent in slow-wave sleep (stage 3-4), 25 and improving the nasal airway during sleep reduces slowwave sleep time and increases rapid-eye-movement sleep time significantly. 7 Although the present study has not aimed at determining changes in sleep architecture, we have observed that when snoring was improved with nasal valve reconstruction, patients derived significant improvement in sleep quality and felt better rested on awakening in the morning.…”

“…Long‐studied oral appliances appeared less often on the commercial Internet, may require the input and expertise of a health care provider, may be used to treat obstructive sleep apnea, and are more invasive with multiple possible side effects 11,12 . Of the discovered literature after a MEDLINE search from 1980 to the present, there were no studies on the objective effectiveness of the topical sprays and results of the nasal strip and pillow were either equivocal, conflicting, or funded by the product's manufacturer 13‐16 …”

“…11,12 Of the discovered literature after a MEDLINE search from 1980 to the present, there were no studies on the objective effectiveness of the topical sprays and results of the nasal strip and pillow were either equivocal, conflicting, or funded by the product's manufacturer. [13][14][15][16] Due to the multifactorial nature of snoring, the lack of efficacy of these studied products becomes understandable. The soft tissue source of vibration may be the soft palate, tongue, hypopharynx, nose, or any combination of these.…”

“…There have been previous studies examining the influence on Rn, in normal subjects, of both internal [15,17,24,25] and external [16,24,26] mechanical nasal dilators, including the ENDS [2, 6±9]. However, none of these previous studies are as comprehensive as the present study, ) before versus after use of nasal decongestant during tidal: a) inspiration; and b) expiration in 20 normal subjects under control (p), placebo (r) and ENDS (h) conditions.…”
