Abstract-With advances in information technology for health and wellness, Smart Home-based solution providers using Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, have increased in importance and become accepted as an alternative means of saving energy when based on Home Energy Management Systems (HEMS). This paper defines a modern architecture (SmartCoM), which is implemented to monitor and manage residential dwellings by using IoT technologies. This involves setting out the parameters that can make interoperability possible between measurement and management , and the layers of data communication, which are the features necessary for the hardware required for monitoring and measurement. In addition, an interface is defined by a middleware layer to integrate the management of external installations and the visualization of data by means of a cloud service. The SmartCoM end-to-end architecture is defined in detail from the standpoint of the consumer and optimization strategies are employed for both the end customer and the utility. The main advantages of using SmartCoM were confirmed by the numerical results obtained from the proposed architecture. This paper ends by showing the current position of SmartCoM as well as suggesting further stages for this line of research.Index Terms-device software platforms, Internet of Things, middleware, Smart Home. I. INTRODUCTIONIn recent years, the panorama of the power systems has been subject to change following the introduction of new business models, for example, electric power distribution. These new models enable consumers to be actively involved on the basis of Smart Grid experiences. This participation makes the scenario more complex with respect to services since it raises serious challenges -for example, when integrating, software and hardware features. This is because the power systems and power companies operate in heterogeneous environments which is an essential strategic factor in ensuring a certain degree of safety (an inherent feature of the electricity sector). As well as this, there is also a need to include services that can outperform those of the traditional electricity networks. A Robust Building Energy Management Algorithm Validated in a Smart House Environment

A building energy management (BEM) system is a core hardware/software platform that enables demand response applications for building operators in the smart grid environment. This paper presents the BEM algorithm that is designed to be robust against communication failures and data errors. It has been implemented in the smart building located at Yildiz Technical University in Istanbul, Turkey, and results are reported herein. Appliance usage profiles and customer preferences used in the BEM demonstration were derived from a survey of Turkish customers. Both summer and winter usage profiles were used to validate the efficacy of the proposed algorithm in a real-world smart building environment. The paper also discusses lessons learned from field implementation.

Original scientific paperSolar power is the major renewable energy source opted by developing countries as stand-alone / Grid enabled system. Industries and educational institutions are opting for solar energy to combat power crisis. This paper proposes knowledge based, self configurable, smart controller to efficiently use solar energy according to load, under frequent grid failure environment. It is enabled with fault identification and isolation. Extension to higher power capacity is easily achieved with plug and play mechanism. Proposed control architecture is implemented using Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), that supports modular level implementation with well defined interfaces for each sub-system. It can be used with low power as well as high power photo-voltaic system. Efficiency of the proposed architecture is demonstrated for the photo-voltaic system installed in educational institution.Key words: Field Programmable Gate Array, Photo-voltaic system, Pulse width modulation, Stand alone system. Sustav za efikasno upravljanje solarnom energijom. Solarna energija spada među glavne obnovljive izvore energije odabrana od strane zemalja u razvoju kao samostalnih izvora ili umrežene s ostalim izvorima. Industrija i edukacijske institucije predlažu solarnu energiju u borbi protiv energetske krize. U ovome radu predstavljen je samokonfigurabilan regulator za efikasno korištenje solarne energije s obzirom na opterećenje ičeste promjene u mreži. To je omogućeno uz identifikaciju kvara. Ekstenzija na visoke snage jednostavno se postiže sa uređajem koji se može odmah koristiti. Regulator je implementiran koristeći programirljive logičke sklopove (FPGA) koji podržavaju modularnu implementaciju svake razine sa sučeljem prema svakom podsustavu. Predloženi sustav može biti korišten za niske snage kao i za visoke snage kod fotonaponskih sustava.
