“…Furthermore, in dermatitis herpetiformis the predominant skin immunoglobulin is IgA (van der Meer, 1969;, whereas in pemphigoid IgG is the only immunoglobulin found (Cormane and Szab6, 1970). The association of small intestinal abnormalities with dermatitis herpetiformis (Marks et al, 1966;van Tongeren et al, 1967;Fraser et al, 1967;Fry et al, 1967), but not with pemphigoid (Marks and Shuster, 1969), would further suggest that it may be misleading to assume a similar pathological mechanism for the production of damage in the skin in both diseases. Therefore, despite the negative serum complement findings in pemphigoid, we have investigated the serum complement levels in different phases of disease activity in dermatitis herpetiformis, including iodide-induced exacerbations.…”
