Abstract: -Identifying diferent anthropometric, physiological and motor aspects is essential to obtain success in sports practice. However, these components may be developed in same age subjects diferently, in part due biological development. he aim of the study was compare and correlate the explosive strength to biological maturation by sex, obtained by estimation of skeletal age based on anthropometric variables. he sample consisted of 239 subjects of both sexes, aged 10 to 13 years. Maturation was assessed by skeleta… Show more

“…However, the results of this research also showed that the ES of maturation with the performance of muscle strength in rowers was of a lower magnitude than the ES found in other sports (see Table 5). Our results differ from previous studies, which found relationships between lean mass and advanced maturation regardless of the analyzed sport [19][20][21][22]40,41].…”

“…For example, Azimi et al [4] identified that the muscular strength of young elite Iranian weight lifters was influenced by the accumulation of lean mass, however, the authors did not analyze the possible interaction of biological maturation, which could have confounded this interpretation. In addition, other studies have identified that BA, CA and sex all have independent significant relationships with the production of muscle strength in young athletes and non-athletes [19][20][21][22][23].…”

“…Based on the premise that the maturational process is guided by the increase in the circulation of testosterone and estrogen hormones in boys and girls, respectively 21 , it would be reasonable to suppose that the more advanced stages of sexual maturation would present higher concentration of these hormones and, consequently, better performance in physical tests 24 . However, this premise was not supported by the results found in this study and diverges from previous studies, which have demonstrated that in more advanced maturational stages, physical performance is higher compared to individuals with delayed maturational stage 5,6 , as well as the hormonal concentration levels 25 . Vidal-Linhares et al 6 , observed a significant tendency to increase physical capacity in parallel with the advancement of the maturational stage in male adolescents.…”

“…During adolescence, the accelerated maturational stage reflects on body growth, strength and power compared to individuals with delayed biological development 5,7,8 , however, with age advancement, these differences tend to be reduced and/or eliminated and contribute to the reduction of participation of adolescents in sports activities 9 .…”
