Comparing costs of home- versus hospital-based treatment of infections in adults in a specialist cystic fibrosis center

“…Although these studies may provide evidence for short-term outcomes, they rarely evaluate long-term outcomes, which are important for these patients (11). A systematic review of short-term RCTs of treatment for respiratory exacerbations in patients with CF provided preliminary indications that single-agent antibiotic therapy increased antibiotic resistance compared with combination therapy (10). However, the cumulative effect of treatment over many years was not considered and no longitudinal studies were identified.…”
