Single layer CPSSA array with change polarization diversity in broadband application

Abstract: The present study proposes a novel broadband circularly polarized (CP) multiple‐input multiple‐output antenna array designed for C‐band applications. The first step was the introduction of a reconfigurable circularly polarized square slot antenna (CPSSA) capable of changing polarization diversity, which could cover impedance bandwidth (BW) from 4.48 to 8.21 GHz with 1.9 GHz of −3 dB axial ratio (AR) BW. Then, a feed network composed of 90° and 180° couplers, a crossover, and delay lines was presented. The CPSS… Show more

“…With the rapid development of modern communication systems, the demand for compact and low-cost dual circularly polarized (CP) antennas has attracted immense attention due to their capabilities of increasing the capacity of wireless communication, reducing multipath interference, and requiring no strict orientation between receiving and transmitting antennas [1][2][3][4][5]. One of the alternative approaches to produce circular polarization is to create two orthogonal resonant modes on the radiating element with a 90 • phase difference.…”

“…In Reference 11, a multiband and dual‐polarized omnidirectional antenna design for VP and HP is suggested. The omnidirectional patterns of both VP and HP can also be achieved by cutting two orthogonal slots on the walls of a slender columnar cuboid, 12 while a reconfigurable polarization diversity by using PIN diode is presented in Reference 13. A circular polarization (CP) diversity cavity‐backed SIW antenna is also presented in Reference 14 in which the sense of polarization is controlled with the diodes.…”

“…In Reference8, a traditional corporate feed network directly connected to four L‐shaped probes was used to feed four circular disc patches. To increase the CP bandwidth, multiple sequential‐phase feeding networks were designed to feed rectangular patches, 9 square slots with eight identical L‐shaped metallics, 10 the hexagonal patches etched with 45° slots, 11 square patches 12 and circular‐slots and semicircular patches, 13 respectively. These efforts led to the realization of 3‐dB axial ratio bandwidths (ARBWs) of 21.4%, 46.3%, 20.7%, 18.2%, and 94.6%, respectively.…”
