Single-feed dual-frequency circular microstrip antenna with an open-ring slot
Abstract: A novel dual‐frequency design of a single‐layer, single‐feed circular microstrip antenna with an open‐ring slot s demonstrated. The open‐ring slot is embedded close to the boundary of the circular patch, and has a small spacing between the two open ends of the slot. By selecting suitable widths of the open‐ring slot, a dual‐frequency operation with its two operating frequencies having similar broadside radiation patterns, the same polarization planes, and small antenna‐gain differences can be obtained. The fre…

“…Dual frequency operation of antennas has become a necessity for many applications in wireless communication systems such as GPS, GSM services operating at two different frequency bands and services of PCS and IMT-2000 applications. Although there are various techniques to achieve dual-band operation from various types of microstrip antennas, there is no efficient design tool that has been incorporated with a suitable optimization algorithm [22][23][24]. In the present communication, dual band characteristics of the gap coupled antenna design without defected ground and with defected ground plane are presented.…”

“…The dual frequency operation is achieved when the slots perturb the fundamental resonant frequency of the patch exciting a new resonance mode. The resonance frequency of the new mode can be either lower [8,9] or higher [10] than the original dominant mode with either the same [8] or orthogonal polarization [11] and is strongly dependent on the slot dimensions. A dual Band CMPA with an inserted U-slot with the dimension of according to high resonant frequency at 5.2 (GHz) to be inserted in the low frequency patch 2.4 (GHz) as shown in figure 4, simulated return loss and axial ration results are performed by using commercial software HFSS and they are shown in figure 5 and 6 respectively.…”

“…In the last decade, some single-layer single-feed dual-frequency patch antennas fed by a coaxial probe have been reported [1][2][3][4][5][6]. These structures using patches loaded by slots can excite dual resonant modes, and provide miniaturisation and narrowband operation with at least 3% impedance bandwidth.…”
