Single‐Case Experimental Designs

Abstract: Single‐case design research has gained recognition as a credible scientific methodology across a variety of fields of study. Uniquely suited to support research on topics related to rare disorders or in instances where access to large sample sizes is unfeasible, single‐case designs have served to advance evidence‐based practices and assessment technologies. In applied settings single‐case designs provide opportunities for practitioners and researchers to be involved in advancing both the practice and research … Show more

“…One study was a feasibility study, with a control group versus an interventional group 41 . One study used a single-case experimental design, 37 with introduction and withdrawal of the independent variable 45 . Five were team approach articles, with complete recommendations for rehabilitation after SEMLS 23,24,42–44 .…”

“…Measuring inter-rater agreement reminds us of its role in minimising reactivity and observational bias and plays a role in internal validity. 40 As long as the postintervention and follow-up phases include a blinded inter-rater assessor and show increasing improvements, we can assume that the measures in the intervention phase do not err in the direction of false positives.…”
