Simultaneous Quantification of Multiple Representative Components in the Xian-Ling-Gu-Bao Capsule by Ultra-Performance Liquid Chromatography Coupled with Quadrupole Time-of-Flight Tandem Mass Spectrometry

Abstract: Xian-Ling-Gu-Bao capsule (XLGB), a famous traditional Chinese medicine prescription, is extensively used for the treatment of osteoporosis in China. However, few studies on the holistic quality control of XLGB have been reported. In this study, a reliable method using 18 representative components in XLGB was successfully established and applied to evaluate 34 batches of XLGB samples by ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC/Q-TOF-MS). The choice o… Show more

“…MGN isolated from Epimedii herba in concentration 1.54-30.74 µg/mL is the component of the Xian-Ling-Gu-Bao (XLGB) capsule. XLGB capsule is an extensively used remedy in Chinese natural medicine for the treatment of osteoporosis [101]. It has been reported that XLGB shows anti-osteoporosis activity in ovariectomized mice [102,103] and rats with oral dosages at 236 mg/kg/day and 270 mg/kg/day, respectively [47].…”

“…However, there is limited literature available on the anabolic effect of herbal compounds in cartilage regeneration. In our previous study, after screening of 34 most abundant compounds in the herbal Fufang Xian Ling Gu Bao formula (XLGB), which has been used for treatment of osteoporosis, aseptic osteonecrosis, osteoarthritis, and bone fractures in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) [53][54][55][56], we found 6 small molecules with potent anabolic and anti-inflammatory properties [57].…”
