Simultaneous determination of uric acid and dopamine using a carbon fiber electrode modified by layer-by-layer assembly of graphene and gold nanoparticles

Abstract: A novel layer-by-layer assembly of graphene sheets and gold nanoparticles modified carbon fiber electrode (GE/Au/GE/CFE) was successfully fabricated and applied to simultaneous determination of dopamine (DA) and uric acid (UA). The structure of GE/Au/GE/CFE was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It was observed that the gold nanoparticles were homogeneously assembled between the two layers of GE sheets. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) measurements elucidate that GE/Au/GE/CFE has higher electrocatalyt… Show more

“…As the base electrode, a carbon fiber electrode (CFE) was examined for layer-by-layer assembly of RGO and AuNPs by Du et al 24 In the study, referring to a previous preparation of RGO wrapped carbon cloth electrode, 25 0.5 mg/mL GO dispersed aqueous solution was prepared, and it was drop-cast onto a CFE. After drying in air, a constant potential electrochemical reduction was performed at first, and then AuNPs were electrochemically deposited from AuCl4 -.…”

“…PtNPs not only provides the higher surface area for the conjugation of antibody but also facilitates the electron transfer. Graphene is widely applied in many fields because of its particular properties, such as large surface area, high electrical conductivity, rapid heterogeneous electron transfer and outstanding mechanical properties [14][15][16]. Chit is a polysaccharide derived by deacetylation of chitin.…”

“…Because of the relation of DA concentration to the occurrence of various diseases, the development of sensors for its quantification has attracted attention in recent years. Several analytical techniques have been developed for the DA determination including sophisticated methods such as mass spectrometry [23], optical spectroscopy [24][25][26], high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) [27,28], and more simple and cheaper electrochemical methods [3,[29][30][31][32][33][34][35]. Electrochemical techniques are the most exploited for DA detection, however, its quantification becomes complicated due to the presence of natural interferents such as ascorbic (AA) and uric (UA) acid, which have similar oxidation potentials to the DA [22].…”

“…Electrochemical techniques are the most exploited for DA detection, however, its quantification becomes complicated due to the presence of natural interferents such as ascorbic (AA) and uric (UA) acid, which have similar oxidation potentials to the DA [22]. The differential pulse voltammetry method applying materials capable of promoting the separation of the oxidation peaks of the different analytes (DA, AA and UA) has been the center of the research for DA sensors [3,32,[34][35][36]. Here we propose an amperometric sensor using the MAO-B enzyme for specific detection of DA using PB as a mediator which allows for low potential measurements and avoids an interfering response.…”
