“…Green et al have prepared silicon containing organic/ inorganic composites by infusing SiCl 4 into poly(styrene-coallyl alcohol) (PSAA) or soluble starch (SS) using scCO 2 as the carrier medium. 120 The SiCl 4 went on to react with the alcohol groups present along the polymer backbones to form Si-O-CH 2 PSAA and Si-O-SS linkages (determined by FTIR analysis) and therefore silica-crosslinked composites. It is reported that SEM images reveal the silica to be dispersed homogeneously throughout the PSAA matrix and the size of the silica particles to be in the range 50-200 nm, although no micrographs are shown.…”
