“…As a result, the data is not presented. The as-prepared GeO 2 colloids exhibit broad and relatively weak peaks that are consistent with the presence of nanoscale polycrystalline domains . Evidence of polycrystalline GeO 2 is detected in the XRD pattern of the extracted core–shell particles, as noted by the appearance of the (110) and (011) peaks.…”

“…The asprepared GeO 2 colloids exhibit broad and relatively weak peaks that are consistent with the presence of nanoscale polycrystalline domains. 33 Evidence of polycrystalline GeO 2 is detected in the XRD pattern of the extracted core−shell particles, as noted by the appearance of the (110) and (011) peaks. Altogether, structural characterization confirms the formation of hybrid GeO 2 colloids encapsulated with the chemically bound SiO 2 .…”

“…The disappearance of C═O stretch absorption at 1635 cm −1 and intense adsorption of C═N stretch suggest the accomplishment of the Schiff base reactions. However, the SiOC stretching adsorption at 1281, 1344, and 1456 cm −1 indicates that the hydrolysis of methoxy groups in APTMS and development of the silica phase in the PI matrix is a much slower process than the formation of imine 40 . These results explain the phenomena that the gels are soft initially and turn hard during the curing process.…”
