Short version of the “instrument for assessment of stress in nursing students” in the Brazilian reality

Abstract: Goal:validate a short version of the Instrument for assessment of stress in nursing students in the Brazilian reality. Method:Methodological study conducted with 1047 nursing students from five Brazilian institutions, who answered the 30 items initially distributed in eight domains. Data were analyzed in the R Statistical Package and in the latent variable analysis, using exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, Cronbach’s alpha and item-total correlation. Results:The short version of the instrument had 1… Show more

“…Factor analysis is done to test the null hypothesis of the identity matrix, to verify no cross-correlation among variables and that all off-diagonal correlations are zero. KMO values >0.50 and P values <0.05 in Bartlett's test are considered adequate for the factorial analysis [17]. Principal components analysis was used to extract maximum variance (total variance explained for each factor) for decreasing a large number of variables into a smaller number of components [18].…”

“…Although there are instruments validated in Brazil designed to assess the stress of nursing students (28)(29)(30) , none have the objective of identifying the stressors experienced by these students during their clinical activities with the elderly population. In this way, the Brazilian version of the Student Nurse Stressor -15 (SNS-15) Scale greatly contributes to the improvement of nursing education from the perspective of care for elderly people, especially when considering population aging (31) .…”
