“…Given that a 2018 survey by the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs has shown that the #MeToo movement heightened the overall level of gender sensitivity in Korean society while weakening views of victim-blaming practice and rape myths 20 , depressive symptoms of SV survivors might have been affected by this broader cultural shift. Based on our systematic search of studies on the effect of the #MeToo movement on mental health outcomes (see Figure A for our search strategy and flowchart of identified relevant studies), we have identified one study that examined how the #MeToo movement impacted the mental health of a convenience sample of US college students 21 . The authors reported that the #MeToo movement may have affected the association between SV and health outcomes; however, the study was not based on the analyses of nationally representative data and further investigation was recommended to establish the impact of social movements (e.g., #MeToo) on the mental health of survivors.…”
