Abstract: Purpose: The negative impact of teenage sexual activity in the US is well established. The American Academy of Pediatrics policy guidelines recommend a comprehensive approach to sexual health counseling that includes abstinence and contraception. The US Conference of Catholic Bishops recommends an abstinence-only approach. Both views converge on the importance of delayed initiation of intercourse.
