“…Data on infected atrial thrombosis in newborn infants are mainly limited to case reports. 2 " 6 These reports mostly concern premature infants who have been critically ill or have undergone a surgical intervention. The preferential right atrial positioning of central lines in premature and small infants may possibly contribute to a higher risk of intracardiac thrombosis.…”

“…Although catheter-related septicemias in premature infants are mostly bacterial, fungal infections have been frequently found in association with intracardiac thrombosis. 2 - 6 Candida infection may cause a disseminated intravascular coagulopathy secondary to the effect of fungal coagulase or exposure to subendothelial collagen by the direct action of the organism. 8 However, neither in our case nor in most of the premature infants with an intracardiac fungal mass were any signs of intravascular coagulopathy reported.…”

Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD. The current study examined the time course and magnitude of activity in threat processing brain regions during speech anticipation in socially anxious individuals and healthy controls (HC). Method Participants (SAD n = 58; HC n = 16) underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during which they completed a 90s control anticipation task and 90s speech anticipation task.

“…When the tip of the catheter moves out of the atrium and into the great vessels, increasing the risk of thrombosis [38]. Other thromboembolic risk factors include SVC stenosis, current smoking, oral contraceptive, obesity, parenteral nutrition, and malignancy [21,[39][40][41][42]. Distal tip thrombsis may occur more commonly in patients with these factors because the blood is in hypercoagulative state.…”
