Abstract: At a press conference held Thursday, June 25, Senator Bill Frist (R‐Tenn.) announced that he and Senator Jay Rockefeller (D‐W.Va.) were introducing a bill to double federal support for research and development (R&D) over the next 12 years. This latest development gives a boost to legislation introduced last October by Senators Phil Gramm (R‐Tex.) and Joe Lieberman (D‐Conn.) to double R&D spending in a decade.
