Self-Organizing Map and Multi-Layer Perceptron Neural Network Based Data Mining to Envisage Agriculture Cultivation

Abstract: Study on characteristics of soil, to determine the types of crops suitable for cultivation in a particular region can increase the yield to greater extent, which minimizes the expenditures involved in irrigation and application of fertilizers. With the tested techniques available for calibrating the quality of soil and the crops suitable for cultivation in it, it is possible to determine the exact crop, irrigation patterns and even the cycle and quantity of fertilizer application. This paper dealt with the app… Show more

“…The reduction of the herbicide usage and the ecological pressure to the soil accordingly can reach 50%. Venkatesh and Thangaraj (2008) applied Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques to find the best match of crop(s) for the given type of soil characteristics. In this paper, AI is used for weeds identification using an evolutionary artificial neural network to minimize the time of classification training and minimize the error through the optimization of the neuron parameters by means of a genetic algorithm.…”

“…This would help in generating maximum income based on the selected crop. Venkatesh and Thangaraj [4] predicted the crops growth using multi-layer perceptron neural networks (MLPNN). It is a process of conceiving something as it might happen in future, based fundamentally, on knowledge gathered from past experiences and from present scenario.…”

“…Each individual is allocated to a single class. Venkatesh and Thangaraj [4] have done an application of SOM and MLP in clustering the land use to different vegetation and the results gave near precise estimation of soil suitability and crops based on the nutrient requirement.…”

“…This would end up by containing value and used by organization as its competitive advantage. All kind of information is accessible these days (Venkatesh and Thangaraj, 2008). Through the process of Knowledge Management (KM), intellectual and knowledge based assets can be generated (Singer and Hurley, 2005) in which the intellectual assets will be derived through collective perspective, insights, ideas, best practices and lessons learnt.…”
