“…Based on the TEM images of solidified PP-POSS systems ( Figure 3A-C), it is possible to estimate that POSS droplets dispersed in the PP-POSS in the molten state are around 1 μm in diameter, assuming they are spherical. Considering that the diameter of each POSS molecule is approximately 5 nm, [12] it is possible to estimate that each POSS droplet should contain around 8 × 10 6 POSS molecules. As the POSS droplets dispersed within the PP matrix are much larger compared to the size of the PP chains, the effect of steric barriers preventing the flow is suppressed and, therefore, they are unlikely to offer effective resistance to the movement of the PP chains.…”
