Abstract: Video-assisted and thermometrically controlled thoracoscopic sympathectomy demonstrates new ways in the treatment of upper-limb hyperhidrosis. An anatomical portrayal of the sympathetic chain is possible as a result of the improved visualization and magnification of the operative area provided by the video-optic technique. The difference in temperature, registered by means of a thermometric sensor in the palm of the hand, indicates that the sympathetic nerves responsible for the hyperhidrotic segments have bee… Show more

“…In this study, the effects of TS on histamine bronchoprovocation tests in 35 EH patients (of whom nine presented BHR pre-operatively) are examined. In these patients the mean degree of BHR did not change significantly at 6 weeks (short-term effects) nor at 6 months (long-term effects) postoperatively, and all patients remained totally asymptomatic.…”

“…In most patients, the condition is recognized in childhood or adolescence, and occasionally in infancy. Its prevalence was estimated in 0.6%-1.0% in the Caucasian population [Adar et al, 1977;Friedel et al, 1993], and suggested to be 20 times more frequent in individuals of the Japanese origin than Caucasians in Hawaii [Cloward, 1957]. PPH has been suggested to be frequent also in the Chinese [OMIM, 2005], although no accurate prevalence is available in the both Japanese and Chinese populations.…”
