As matas ciliares da Caatinga têm estado sob intensos processos de degradação ambiental, ocasionados pela urbanização acelerada, o que acarreta a redução destas e, consequentemente, na perda da biodiversidade. Portanto, os bioindicadores são ferramentas de avaliação do estado de conservação do meio ambiente, a partir de organismos vivos. Neste contexto, o estudo objetivou identificar bioindicadores florísticos que expressem a conservação da mata ciliar do Rio Pajeú, no trecho do município de Serra Talhada. As espécies avaliadas foram mulungu (Erythrina velutina) e caraúba (Tabebuia aurea), utilizando parâmetros previamente definidos. Designou-se os pesos e as notas com relação ao nível de importância e de representatividade, respectivamente. Com os dados obtidos, realizou-se o somatório e identificou-se o bioindicador florístico do estado de conservação florística da mata ciliar na Caatinga. Realizou-se a análise estatística de quartil, considerando como 100% um ótimo bioindicador. Ambas as espécies são boas para a bioindicação; o mulungu foi considerado como o melhor, por apresentar maior quantidade de parâmetros. Recomenda-se ambas as espécies para a avaliação da qualidade florística da mata ciliar da Caatinga.
