Sedimentary Facies, Provenance and Geochronology of the Heshangzhen Group: Implications for the Tectonic Evolution of the Eastern Jiangnan Orogen, South China

Abstract: The Neoproterozoic Jiangnan orogen plays an important role in the study of the Precambrian tectonic evolution of South China. The tectonic nature of the Neoproterozoic sedimentary basins is still controversial, due to poor understanding of the sedimentary sequences and the lack of geochronological data. Here, we present sedimentological, provenance and geochronological data from the Heshangzhen Group in the eastern Jiangnan orogen. Sedimentological analysis shows that the Luojiamen Formation was deposited in a… Show more

“…The age range for the eastern domain based on zircon U–Pb analysis is between 970 and 890 Ma (Meng et al, 2013; Sun et al, 2018; Yao, Cawood, et al, 2019; Yu et al, 2020; Zhang, Li, & Santosh, 2013). The central and western domains have younger zircon ages than the eastern domain, ranging from 800 to 870 Ma and 855 to 825 Ma, respectively (Yao, Cawood, et al, 2016, 2019; Yang et al, 2018; Yu et al, 2020; Zhou et al, 2020; Yao, Cawood, et al, 2019). Various geological features can be found in the Jiangnan Orogen, such as the Ophiolitic mélange, I‐type and S‐type granites, with ages ranging from 815 to 910 Ma (Charvet et al, 1996; Shu & Charvet, 1996; Sun et al, 2018; Yao, Cawood, et al, 2019).…”
