“…Carbachol and Ca 2+ ionophore activated a bidirectional increase of ~25I efflux from HT-29cl.19A cells grown on permeable supports, but forskolin only increased the efflux through the apical membrane. Although the fast and transient depolarization induced by carbachol appears to be common to the original HT-29 cell line (Ziss, Fromm & Hegel, 1988), as far as we know, the observation that the conductance increase took place in both membranes is unique. Application of the whole-cell voltage-clamp technique on T84 cells (Cliff & Frizzell, 1990) revealed a short-lasting Ca2+-dependent CI-conductance, but this technique cannot discriminate between apical and basolateral membranes, and with transepithelial measurements, the symmetrical depolarization of the cell cannot be detected.…”
