Second-generation polymeric precursors for BN and SiNCB ceramic materials

Abstract: Our recent work directed at the design, synthesis, characterization and applications of new types of polyborazylene and polyborosilazane polymers is reviewed with a focus on the use of these polymers as processable precursors to BN and SiNCB composites. A design strategy based on the controlled functionalization of preformed polymers with pendant groups of suitable compositions and crosslinking properties has been employed to yield second-generation dipentylamine-polyborazylene (DPA) and pinacolborane-hydridop… Show more

“…The polymer to ceramic conversion leads to ceramic yields up to 72%. The yield of the obtained preceramic polymer in this study is similar to that of HPZ families [27]. The initial weight loss observed at 100-300°C could arise through a crosslinking reaction with NH groups in the polymer backbone and Si-N linkages [28].…”

Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD. The current study examined the time course and magnitude of activity in threat processing brain regions during speech anticipation in socially anxious individuals and healthy controls (HC). Method Participants (SAD n = 58; HC n = 16) underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during which they completed a 90s control anticipation task and 90s speech anticipation task.

“…To overcome this drawback, new polymeric precursors to BN ceramics were prepared through reactions of polyborazylene with diethylamine DEA, dipentylamine DPA, and hexamethyldisilazane HMD. [95][96][97] The DPA-polyborazylene polymers led to the successful preparation of continuous polymer fibers 30-40 mm in diameter with a melt-spun technique. Pyrolysis of the polymer fibers under ammonia gave high-quality BN ceramic fibers 30 mm in diameter.…”
