Pereira et al (2005) observed that breeding behaviour of male Pampas Deer during rut was characterized by predominately ano-genital sniffing, flehmen, urine sniffing, chasing and mounting. In this study, good body condition was maintained in the initial phases of the rut season but, during the later stages of rut/hard antler phase, the stags were seen in a worn out condition which is indicative of the hardships undergone during the rut for maintenance of the harem as well as the dominance quotient.…”
