Abstract: Two searches for supersymmetric particles in final states containing a same-flavour opposite-sign lepton pair, jets and large missing transverse momentum are presented. The proton–proton collision data used in these searches were collected at a centre-of-mass energy  TeV by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb. Two leptonic production mechanisms are considered: decays of squarks and gluinos with Z bosons in the final state, resulting in a peak i… Show more

“…If we nevertheless test against a standard SUSY search, e.g. a signature with a same-flavor oppositesign lepton pair, jets, and large missing transverse momentum [109], we find a rather low selection efficiency ( < ∼ 1%), due to the softness of the visible decay products and the tendency of the two final state neutralinos to be back to back, thus reducing the amount of missing transverse energy.…”

“…In a few cases, a data yield above the expected background was observed for certain signal regions, for example, in the case of the dilepton edge analysis by CMS [248] and the SUSY search in Z+jets events by ATLAS [249]. These excesses correspond to, respectively, ∼ 2.4σ and ∼ 3.0σ of local significance, which are reduced after accounting for the look-elsewhere effect (LEE).…”

“…Meanwhile, the ATLAS collaboration has performed a corresponding analysis [20] with slightly different selection criteria. Here, the observed data is well consistent with the standard model background expectations in the low-m ll region beneath the Z-resonance.…”
