Abstract: A search for narrow resonances in the dijet mass spectrum is performed using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.9 pb⁻¹ collected by the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. Upper limits at the 95% confidence level are presented on the product of the resonance cross section, branching fraction into dijets, and acceptance, separately for decays into quark-quark, quark-gluon, or gluon-gluon pairs. The data exclude new particles predicted in the following models at the 95% confidence level… Show more

“…The origin of this invariance lies in the collinear nature of the final-state radiation, which typically does not change the total transverse energy in the event; hence the independence of the S T spectrum of the jet multiplicity for the QCD background. This invariance allows us to predict the shape of the S T spectrum for any number of objects using the dijet data, which has been studied extensively for presence of new physics in dedicated analyses [37][38][39].…”

“…No evidence of new physics has been observed in this region in a dedicated analysis [37]. To estimate the systematic uncertainty of the method, the same S T distributions are fitted with two additional functions, P 0 /(P 1 + P 2 x + x 2 ) P 3 and P 0 /(P 1 + x) P 2 .…”

“…The axigluon couples to quark pairs with a coupling as strong as in QCD, therefore searches for possible dijet resonances [34] will further constrain the parameter space of the model, as discussed in section 2.2. We note that in the narrow width approximation the production cross section for qq → G → qq is proportional to |g q V | 2 +|g q A | 2 = cot 2 2θ+csc 2 2θ and that the branching fraction for G decaying into jets is fixed to be 5/6.…”

“…exclusion upper limit on dijet resonance production, σ × A (where A is the acceptance), for the qq initial state and then rescaling the cross sections of colorons and axigluons in figure 4 of ref. [34], we can estimate the corresponding dijet resonance constraints [35]. The dijet resonance searches are based on the narrow width approximation, so they do not constrain axigluons with large widths.…”
