Search for dark matter candidates and large extra dimensions in events with a jet and missing transverse momentum with the ATLAS detector

Abstract: A search for new phenomena in events with a high-energy jet and large missing transverse momentum is performed using data from proton-proton collisions at √ s = 7 TeV with the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. Four kinematic regions are explored using a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.7 fb −1 . No excess of events beyond expectations from Standard Model processes is observed, and limits are set on large extra dimensions and the pair production of dark matter particles. Keywo… Show more

“…Because of the presence of these bright sources, the search for a dark matter signal has focused on an angular region of 0.3-1.0°around the GC. Using (102) and compact muon solenoid (CMS) (103)] transformed to limits on the annihilation cross section on the assumption of four-particle contact interactions as in ref. 104.…”

“…searches yield some interesting but still inconclusive hints [38][39][40], and as of today the LHC has not discovered a hint of a DM-like particle [41][42][43][44]. WIMPs are certainly not yet excluded, nevertheless the current experimental results suggest the thorough exploration of alternative DM candidates.…”

“…As in the preceeding part of Sec. 5.3, the production of sterile neutrinos is exclusively governed by the reactions SS ↔ hh and (5.40) 41) to lowest order in perturbation theory. 37 Again we neglect the inverse reaction of two sterile neutrinos producing one scalar.…”
