Abstract: Development of new drugs is one of the solutions to fight against the existing antimicrobial resistance threat. Cinnamaldehyde-amino acid Schiff base compounds, are newly discovered compounds that exhibit good antibacterial activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Quantitative structure–activity relationship (QSAR) methodology was applied to explore the correlation between antibacterial activity and compound structures. The two best QSAR models showed R2 = 0.9354, F = 57.96, and s2 = 0.0020 a… Show more

“…Schiff's Bases (SBs) of cinnamaldehyde, salicylaldehyde, 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde and 4-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde etc. have shown considerable antibacterial activity [8, 9, 10, 11]. The in silico and in vitro studies on indole based SBs have proved their antimicrobial potential [12, 13].…”

“…First, QSAR models are traditionally used to optimize the activity of already existing molecules. Along these lines, Wang et al [ 22 ] developed a QSAR model based on cinnamaldehyde-amino acid Schiff base compounds, a family of newly discovered compounds that exhibit good broad-spectrum antibacterial activity, which was then used to design and synthesize three new compounds with comparable antibacterial activity to that of ciprofloxacin. Similarly, De Bruijn et al [ 23 ] used the information derived from a QSAR model to develop novel lead compounds with a 1,4-benzoxazin-3-one scaffold which were reported to be up to 5 times more active than any of the analogue compounds used to build the model.…”

“…However, despite the recognized antimicrobial activities of these classes of compounds, there are few studies that address the biological activities of cinnamyl Schiff bases. In recent years, some works have explored the biological properties of Schiff bases derived from cinnamaldehydes and amino acids (Yang et al 2016;Wang et al 2016;Wang et al 2018). Nevertheless, there is still a gap in the literature about the antifungal properties of anilines derivatives cinnamyl Schiff bases.…”
