Dual‐band circularly polarized hybrid antenna for WLAN/WiMAX applications

Abstract: In this article, a dual‐band circularly polarized hybrid antenna is examined and discussed. In this composition, the diagonally trimmed square shaped slot (modified slot) acts as a radiator and the feeding network of CDRA. Modified slot has been adopted to excite the orthogonal modes ( HE11δx and HE11δy) in CDRA, which is responsible for the origination of circularly polarized (CP) waves in lower frequency band (2.68–3.04 GHz). Furthermore, a combination of V‐shaped microstrip line with modified slot is utili… Show more

“…The truncation increases the impedance bandwidth, but some part of the |S 11 | response between the two resonant peaks reaches above the −10‐dB point. In this case, the notch is truncated from the rectangular patch to create a path delay of λ /4 for generating the 90° phase difference between the x ‐ and y ‐polarized electric field components within the square DRA for enhancing the axial ratio bandwidth . Therefore, in antenna 2, axial ratio bandwidth increases from 26.66% to 48%.…”

“…The truncation of the rectangular patch generates the 90° phase difference between the two orthogonal linearly polarized electric field components inside the square DRA for CP operation. Therefore, a λ /4 path delay is created for generating the 90° phase difference between the x‐ and y‐polarized electric field components in the square DRA due to that CP bandwidth enhances significantly . The maximum AR bandwidth is achieved in the case of d = 3.25 mm.…”

“…The proposed slot originates CP waves in lower frequency band (2.68–3.04 GHz). A combination of V‐shaped strip line with the proposed slot generates CP waves in upper frequency band (5.12–5.34 GHz) . Another dual‐band CDRA with dual polarization is proposed with inverted pentagon shaped aperture to launch two HEM 11δ and HEM 12δ hybrid modes.…”

“…When compared with many other antennas, circularly polarized (CP) micro‐strip antenna holds many advantages . It is widely used in Global Position System (GPS), mobile satellite communication, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), and so on . Traditionally, design of a CP micro‐strip antenna is mainly concentrated on selecting proper radiation patch structure, finding 2 orthogonal modes, and choosing optimal position to excite the orthogonal modes.…”
