Computer‐aided development and experimental investigation of a double‐ridged orthomode transducer for modern satellite and space communication systems

Abstract: This article presents results of development, optimization, and experimental measurements of electromagnetic characteristics of a wideband orthomode transducer for satellite and space communications. Analyzed design of the transducer is based on a double‐ridged waveguide junction, which allows to obtain high level of discrimination of fundamental electromagnetic modes with perpendicular linear polarizations. Numerical modeling of the designed microwave waveguide orthomode transducer was performed by an effecti… Show more

“…The manipulation of guided electromagnetic waves is of paramount importance in various fields, including nanophotonics, communications, analog computing, and integrated optics [1,2]. Traditional optical waveguides have been a standard for interconnecting with external power sources, testing, and packaging such as parallel plates waveguide, metallic rectangular waveguide, metallic circular waveguide, slot lines, stripline, photonic crystal waveguides and ribbon waveguides [3].…”

“…The applied antenna system must contain specific types of microwave waveguide devices [8,9] to provide a possibility to operate at circular polarization. Namely, these devices are orthomode duplexers [10][11][12] and waveguide polarization converters [13,14]. One of the common types of waveguide polarization transforming devices is polarizers with conducting metal septum plates.…”
