Fora… Show more

“…Organic matter, base saturation and pH are frequently used parameters to infer part of the chemical quality of the soil. These variables are generally positively correlated and considered fundamental in the evaluation of soil fertility (FREITAS et al, 2017;GUARÇONI, 2017).…”

“…Taking into account that coffee plantations require nutrient input into the soil in order to replenish the volume exported in the beans, soil fertility needs to be managed to maintain the aimed productivity levels annually. According to Guarçoni (2017), the improvement and maintenance of soil fertility can be achieved through fertilizers.…”

“…Arabica coffee is a high nutrient-demanding crop, and it has very limited bean yield if grown in acidic soils with low nutrient availability (Acuña-Zornosa & Sadeghian-Khalajabadi, 2020;Corrêa et al, 2007;Matiello et al, 2016;Mendonça et al, 2007;van Raij et al, 1996). In Brazil, either most coffee crops are grown on naturally acidic soils or on soils with problems of acidity and low fertility caused by crop nutrient removal, frequent use of ammonium-based fertilizers, or both factors (Guarçoni, 2017;Matiello, et al, 2016; van Raij et al, 1996). In this context, the application of limestone is essential to raise the soil pH, neutralize toxic Al 3+ , decrease the high availability of Mn 2+ , supply Ca and Mg, and increase the soil microbial activity (Chaves et al, 1984;Corrêa et al, 2007;Guarçoni, 2017;López-Báez et al, 2018;Matiello et al, 2016;van Raij et al, 1996).…”

This improves the fertilizer use efficiency hence, making coffee cultivation economically viable.…”
