“…Mantoux tests soon after, 17 and 23 months after the operation, were at first positive weakly only with 1:100 OT, and later became strongly positive with 1:1000; at the sites of these tests, indolent infiltrations appeared, having the histological structure of sarcoids when excised for biopsy at four weeks, seven weeks and in one instance after six months. Hurley and Shelley (1960) found that in five of 50 healthy black men, painless papules persisted four weeks after tuberculin tests, and on biopsy showed epithelioid cell granulomas. Biopsies were performed at four weeks in 15 of those without a papule and no granuloma was observed.…”

“…The granuloma seen in the case of one highly reactive, BCG-sensitized animal, injected with 150 /¿g of protoplasm, cannot be easily explained. It may be that this was a 'sarcoid-like reaction' analogous to that described by H u r l e y [15] in a few individuals inject ed with PPD; or the protoplasmic fraction may have some cell wall contamination.…”

“…Granuloma form ation was seen in the dermis, far away from tin-fatty tissue. This rules out the well known possibility of fatty acids being responsible for the granuloma formation [11,21].…”

“…We came to the conclusion that, in spite of the fact th a t the pathogenesis of granuloma formation is a complex one, in which m any factors can interfere, hypersensitivity m ust be considered an im portant one in its genesis [8,10,11,19,20]. Granuloma form ation was seen in the dermis, far away from tin-fatty tissue.…”
