Lightweight constructions made of sandwich panels became well established for roof and wall claddings of industrial structures. Due to their good heat insulation, their excellent weight to load ratio and high load-bearing capacity as well as the economical manufacturing and erection process, sandwich structures are build frequently. Besides the mentioned advantages the linear manufacturing process of sandwich panels usually limits the possible building cubature to rectangular shapes. In an interdisciplinary project, architectural, civil engineering and mechanical engineering institutes of Technische Universität Darmstadt are working on a design concept building shell structures with linear manufactured curved sandwich panels. A preliminary study indicates that arched sandwich beams have a high potential regarding the loadbearing capacity. The comparison between arched and single span sandwich beams shows that, even for asymmetric loads, resulting stresses in the two-hinged arches are significantly lower than in the related simply supported single span beams. To verify the results of the numeric study full-scale tests on curved sandwich panels will be performed. Furthermore, an assessment of the load-bearing behavior of the panels joints loaded with axial forces is planned. Based on the results further numeric studies will be conducted to investigate the behavior of whole shell structures following the developed design principle by taking into account realistic load cases for exemplary building applications, giving special attention to asymmetrical loads. Moreover, further research regarding the requirements for supporting structures as well as for the connection between the shell structure and the supporting structure is necessary to take into account the high axial forces, which are not common in sandwich structures.

Im Rahmen der Entwicklung eines Glas-Hartschaum-Beton-Sandwichelements ohne mechanische Verbindungsmittel werden Untersuchungen zum Verbundverhalten zwischen Polyurethan-Hartschaum und Floatglas mit verschiedenen Oberflächen durchgeführt. Die Ergebnisse aus Haftzugund Scherversuchen zeigen, dass eine raue Glasoberfläche zu kohäsivem Versagen in der Dämmstoffschicht und die Atmosphären-und Zinnbadseite der glatten Glasoberflächen zu einem adhäsiven Versagen führen. Insgesamt erzielen die Prüfkörper mit einem im Produktionsprozess von Metall-Hartschaum-Sandwichelementen eingesetztem Haftvermittler höhere Festigkeiten. Aus mikroskopischen Untersuchungen der Bruchflächen geht hervor, dass der Haftvermittler einen signifikanten Einfluss auf die Benetzung und die Porenausbildung des flüssigen Polyurethans an der Glasoberfläche besitzt. Studies of the bonding behaviour between polyurethane rigid foam and different surfaces of annealed glass are part of the development of a glass-rigid-foam-concrete sandwich panel without any additional adhesives. The results of tensile adhesive and shear tests show a cohesive failure in the polyurethane insulation layer for a rough glass surface. Without any surface treatment the glass surfaces atmospheric side and tin bad side lead to adhesive failure. Overall, test specimens with the same bonding agents used in the production process of metal rigid foam sandwich panels achieved higher values of strength. Furthermore, microscopic analyses of the fracture surfaces demonstrate the influence of the bonding agent on the wetting and pore formation of the polyurethane rigid foam. Sandwichelemente mit Glas als äußere Deckschicht erfordern bisher für eine Verwendung in der Fassade von Gebäuden den Einsatz von mechanischen oder adhäsiven Verbundmitteln. Ein Verzicht auf diese Verbundmittel ist hinsichtlich Ressourcen‐ und Energieeinsparung sowohl bei der Herstellung als auch in der Anwendung vorteilhaft. Der vorliegende Aufsatz berichtet über experimentelle Untersuchungen zum Verbundverhalten zwischen Polyurethan‐Hartschaum und verschiedenen Oberflächen von Floatglas ohne und mit Haftvermittler im Rahmen der Entwicklung eines verbundmittelfreien Glas‐Hartschaum‐Beton‐Sandwichelements. Die Ergebnisse aus Haftzug‐ und Scherversuchen zeigen, dass eine im Sandstrahlverfahren aufgeraute Glasoberfläche zu kohäsivem Versagen im Hartschaum führt. Mit den beiden herstellungsbedingt verschiedenen Glasoberflächen für die Atmosphären‐ und Zinnbadseite erfolgt das Versagen zwischen Hartschaum und Glas adhäsiv. Die Verbunde ohne Haftvermittler weisen keine signifikanten Unterschiede zwischen Atmosphären‐ und Zinnbadseite auf. Insgesamt erzielen die Prüfkörper mit Haftvermittler höhere Werte für die Haftzug‐ und Scherfestigkeit. Aus licht‐ und elektronenmikroskopischen Untersuchungen der Bruchflächen geht hervor, dass der verwendete Haftvermittler einen deutlichen Einfluss auf die Benetzbarkeit der Glasoberfläche und die Porenausbildung des flüssigen Polyurethan‐Hartschaums aufweist. Der Verbund zwischen Beton und Hartschaum ist in Teil 1 des Aufsatzes beschrieben.
