“…19 That noted, our incidence of grade 3þ GU toxicity does not exceed that reported in de novo or salvage HDR literature. 15,16,18,[30][31][32][33] Our serious GU complication rate appears considerably less than that reported with salvage radical prostatectomy, with one contemporary salvage RP series reporting 35% grade 3 or higher complications and another salvage RP literature review series quoting up to 25% such incidence, versus our own incidence of 8% including all prior RT risk categories and 3% poststandard EBRT salvage. 8,9 The incidence of GI toxicity greater than grade 1 in this series is zero, with more than adequate median follow-up duration in this series (nearly 4 years) to properly evaluate this risk condition, indicating that this SBRT method is at least as safe from a GI toxicity viewpoint as any other local salvage method.…”

“…The 60% 5-year bRFS in this series is within the 45% to 78% range of reported 5-year salvage brachytherapy results. 12,[15][16][17][18][27][28][29][30][31][32][33] As previously described in great detail, the dose morphology in this protocol was designed to replicate that of HDR brachytherapy such that brachytherapy equivalence is expected and reasonably demonstrated herein. 19 We also report a biochemical relapse-free efficacy rate that appears at least comparable to that reported with salvage radical prostatectomy (RP); 60% 5-year bRFS in the present series versus 57% 3-year bRFS in a contemporary salvage RP series of similar size and similar median follow-up.…”

“…On multivariate analysis, only the PSA doubling time less than 12 months was significantly associated with PSA relapse. 118 Salvage High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound for Recurrent Prostate Cancer Salvage HIFU which targets focused ultrasound energy to a specific area has been used for primary prostate cancer treatment and for salvage therapy. Salvage HIFU is relatively recent treatment modality with limited studies on its efficacy.…”
