Abstract: Objective: To determine the safety, immunogenicity and efficacy of two doses of rotavirus vaccine in healthy Brazilian infants. Methods: A randomized, multicenter, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was conducted in Brazil, Mexico and Venezuela. Infants received two oral doses of vaccine or placebo at 2 and 4 months of age, concurrently with routine immunizations, except for oral poliomyelitis vaccine (OPV). “…RV1 vaccinederived virus has a lower ID 50 (∼10 5 PFU/mL or less) that may present a higher chance of viral transmission. 17 Transmission of rotavirus vaccine strain RV1 to unvaccinated individuals has been assessed in many studies [18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25] but only documented as occurring in 3. [18][19][20] In studies documenting RV1 transmission, seroconversion varied from 2% to 6% among placebo recipients.…”

“…The identification of the acute diarrheal agent is necessary to evaluate the efficiency of the vaccine through the years because in clinical trials, the vaccine used in Brazil demonstrated efficiency against gastroenteritis caused by rotavirus G1P [8], G2P [4], G3P [8], G4P [8] and G9P [8] 4,5 . Before the introduction of the vaccine, type G1P [8] was the most prevalent.…”
