S100 protein family and embryo implantation

Abstract: It is well known that embryo implantation is a critical process in which embryo should be able to reach and attach to endometrium. Until now, various types of factors are involved in the regulation of this process. S100 proteins are calciumbinding proteins, which have vital roles in embryo implantation and have been considered as possible candidate markers for endometrial receptivity. However, studies regarding mode of actions of these proteins are scarce and more mechanistic insights are needed to clarify exa… Show more

“…is higher in the recently ovulated eggs than in the subsequent stage. The upregulation of both calbindins at this point might be related to the regulation of oviductal muscle contraction during the embryonic implantation process, just as in mammalian species (Sadigh et al, 2019). Our immunochemical analyses in the mature placenta of Mabuya sp.…”

“…This protein family is mainly involved in cell cycle progression and plays a role in microtubule protein polymerization. Aberrant expression of this protein family is associated with tumor metastasis ( Sadigh et al, 2019 ). S100A4 has been reported to be associated with cancer cell migration and metastasis and is important in tumor onset and progression ( Atlasi et al, 2016 ; Liu et al, 2018 ).…”

“…For successful embryo implantation, the process must be sequential, which means that the three phases, namely apposition, adhesion, and invasion, should occur sequentially [ 16 ]. For pregnancy, endometrium transition to the pregnancy state is the key to embryo implantation, and a change in several proteins in the endometrium during this process is a prerequisite [ 17 , 18 ]. The DEPs discovered in the present study were mainly involved in energy metabolism, inflammation, and cell–cell adhesion functions, as well as the cell and cell parts in cellular components and catalytic activity.…”
