Royal jelly attenuates cadmium-induced nephrotoxicity in male mice

Abstract: Cadmium exposure induces nephrotoxicity by mediating oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis. The purpose of this study was to examine the protective effect of royal jelly on Cd-induced nephrotoxicity. Adult male mice were distributed randomly into 4 clusters: untreated, royal jelly-treated (85 mg/kg, oral), CdCl 2 -treated (6.5 mg/kg, intraperitoneal), and pretreated with royal jelly (85 mg/kg) 2 h before CdCl 2 injection (6.5 mg/kg, intraperitoneal) for sev… Show more

“…However, Cd exposure had no effect on the expression of p62. Taken together, increasing the expression of Keap1 results in the inhibition of Nrf2, which contributes to Cd-induced oxidative injury and they are in line with previous findings [23,30].…”

“…The nuclear protein extraction and western blot analysis were performed following the methods described by Almeer et al [ 21 ]. The utilized antibodies included mouse anti-Nrf2 (sc-28379, 1 : 500; Santa Cruz Biotechnology, Santa Cruz, CA, USA), mouse antihistone H1 (sc-393358, 1 : 1500; Santa Cruz Biotechnology), and goat antimouse IgG (sc-2039, 1 : 5,000; Santa Cruz Biotechnology).…”

“…Protein extraction from the hippocampal tissue and blotting analyses were performed as previously illustrated. 40 Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) (MAB3925, 1:1000; R&D System), heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) (sc-390991, 1:1000; Santa Cruz Biotechnology, Santa Cruz, CA, USA), and β-actin (MAB8929, 1:2000; R&D System, Minneapolis, MN, USA) were used as a primary antibody, whereas goat anti-mouse IgG (sc-2039, 1:5000; Santa Cruz Biotechnology, Santa Cruz, CA, USA) conjugated with horseradish peroxidase (HRP) was used a secondary antibody. The protein bands were visualized using a chemiluminescence HRP substrate (Bio-Rad, Hercules, CA, USA).…”
