Rotatory role-playing and role-models to enhance the research integrity culture

Abstract: The Path2Integrity project is a two-component coordination and support action to enhance research integrity cultures. Path2Integrity develops and fosters role-models and rotatory role-play scenarios for secondary school students, undergraduates, graduates, and early career researchers. A Path2Integrity campaign for scientific facts about research integrity and role-models, raises awareness of research integrity within secondary schools and universities. A complementary Path2Integrity handbook of instructions, … Show more

“…In 2018, Delft University of Technology, Netherlands, began building a community of data champions across diverse faculties (Mejlgaard et al, 2020). The campaigns help develop and foster role models for secondary school students, undergraduates, graduates and early career researchers for research ethics and integrity (Prieß-Buchheit et al, 2020). Additionally, it is important to prioritise formative and action research to determine the best strategies for determining the culturally tailored and contextrelevant ways to integrate research ethics into the courses.…”

“…Additionally, it is important to prioritise formative and action research to determine the best strategies for determining the culturally tailored and contextrelevant ways to integrate research ethics into the courses. The provision for assessing multi-media and multi-platform campaigns with the aim of advancing research ethics culture and responsible research is essential to integrate into the policies (Prieß-Buchheit et al, 2020). Similarly, Path2Integrity, a project funded by the European commission, has been making various posters, booklets and videos focusing on secondary school and university students (Prieß-Buchheit & Häberlein, 2021).…”

“…Many organisations and projects have begun to establish training around the proactive extreme (see, e.g., Pennock and O'Rourke 2017;Priess-Buchheit et al 2020a;INTEGRITY and VIRT2UE), 1 because effective introduction to the scientific community and emerging fields in research prevent cases of misconduct. This proactive approach is also supported by the fact that resocialisation training often fails (Zamble & Porporino 1990), and some observations imply that to resocialise researchers may have a negative effect on the RI culture (Kalichman 2014).…”

“…Path2Integrity has also offered workshops, in person and online, where the learning cards are used. The contents and methods of the programme are explained in the "1st year" publication (Priess-Buchheit et al 2020a, 2020b and on the website Path2Integrity.eu.…”

“…The Path2Integrity learning card programme (P2ILC) aims to build and enhance knowledge about reliable research and how to apply it. Participants "learn how to conduct a dialogue on the rejection or acceptance of norms in research integrity (Prieß-Buchheit et al 2020). The programme's learning cards have been continuously used and developed since 2019 when they were first published.…”
