Rotary Gas Separators in High GOR Wells, Field and Lab Tests Comparison

Abstract: Monitoring and testing of subsurface equipment is crucial when stepping up artificial lift efficiency. Oil production using electrical submersible pumps (ESP) in RN-Purneftegas was initially complicated by a strong gas influence. The main method to increase ESP performance in wells with a high GOR is using rotary gas separators. Subsurface equipment adjustment for high GOR conditions, including gas separator calibration, is of primary importance, due to a strong influence of the ESP design on well performance.… Show more

“…Estimated separation efficiencies were compare to those calculated by Drozdov methodology [24] and Marquez correlations [22]. It includes the following: − Total down hole gas separation efficiency: By separate measuring the gas flow rate through the tubing and the annulus, the down hole separation efficiency could be estimated.…”

“…The key methods to combat the harmful effect of gas include lowering submersible equipment below the dynamic fluid level, using special ESP stages designed for efficient operation in gas-saturated media, installing booster devices (gas separators and gas dispersants), and using ESP sections of different sizes, etc. [36][37][38][39]. These methods have been proven to have a high practical efficiency [40,41].…”
