“…Although there are various established types of multi-attribute utility functions, the additive formulation is utilized herein. Within the additive formulation, marginal utility values associated with each attribute are multiplied by weighting factors and summed over all attributes investigated [32]. The utility values corresponding to economic, social, and environmental risk-attributes are determined by considering equal contributions of the sub-attributes involved.…”

Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD. The current study examined the time course and magnitude of activity in threat processing brain regions during speech anticipation in socially anxious individuals and healthy controls (HC). Method Participants (SAD n = 58; HC n = 16) underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during which they completed a 90s control anticipation task and 90s speech anticipation task.

“…Such functions assume mutual preference independence between the attributes, but Stewart (1996) showed that they can provide robust approximations to decision makers' preferences when outcomes are deterministic. “…Independence assumptions of additive value function [39] are examined. Although the mutual independence condition is not fully satisfied, the additive value function is generally robust to prioritizing alternatives given mild violations of this assumption [40]. Therefore, for the purpose of mathematical simplicity, we assume the prerequisites of the existence of additive value function are met and the multiattribute value function is given by…”
