This paper investigates the stability of nonlinear networked control systems (NCSs) with dynamic controllers that possess direct-feedthrough terms (i.e. that are of relative degree zero). The presence of the direct-feedthrough terms obstructs the application of existing stability results for NCSs. Indeed, the uniform global exponential stability (UGES) of an auxiliary system induced by the plant and the network protocol needs to be verified. In prior work, this auxiliary system depends solely on the protocol (and not on the plant or on the controller) and, consequently, the analysis is simpler. Checking UGES of this auxiliary system turns out to be nontrivial when direct-feedthrough terms are present (even for the simplest protocols). Still, we are able to show UGES of the auxiliary system for Round-Robin (RR) and Try-Once-Discard (TOD) network protocols, which, together with other requirements on the maximum allowable transmission intervals (MATIs), ensures the stability of the overall system. We also show that the analysis and proofs can be greatly simplified in cases when the control inputs are sent over one communication channel and the plant outputs over a separate channel.

The performance of cyber physical system-based smart wireless networks depends on effective channel access by reducing the blocking, the dropping probability, and collisions. The aim of this proposed algorithm is to reduce the collisions in cyber physical system-based smart wireless networks. In this paper, multilevel medium access control in cyber physical system-based smart wireless networks is proposed. The optimal number of levels of gateways is determined using the concept of learning automata. Priority and time limit are assigned to every packet that is being transmitted. The proposed algorithm is evaluated and compared with two-level medium access control in cyber physical system-based smart wireless networks, which is referred as priority with counter modified backoff (PCMB). The parameters used for evaluating the performance are throughput, delay, % of collisions, and number of packets dropped. In this work we address the problem of event-based data scheduling for multiple heterogeneous LTI control loops over a shared resource-constrained communication network. We introduce a novel bi-character scheduling scheme, which dynamically prioritizes the channel access at each time-step according to an error-dependent priority measure. Given local error thresholds for each control loop, the scheduling policy deterministically blocks the transmission from subsystems with lower error values. The scheduler then allocates the limited communication resource probabilistically among the eligible subsystems based on a prioritized measure. We prove stochastic stability of the networked control system under the proposed scheduler in terms of fergodicity of the overall network-induced error. Uniform analytical performance bounds are further derived for an average cost function comprised of a quadratic error term and transmission penalty. The simulation results show that our approach results in a significant reduction of the aggregate network-induced error variance compared to the conventional scheduling protocols.
