Risk Factors of Lymph Node Metastases with Endometrial Carcinoma

Abstract: Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate and evaluate risk factors for lymph node metastases (LNM) in cases of endometrial cancer (EC). Materials and Methods: A retrospective single institution analysis of patients surgically staged for EC at Ankara Oncology Education and Research Hospital from 1996 to 2010 was performed. Roles of prognostic factors, such as age, histological type, grade, depth of myometrial invasion, cervical involvement, peritoneal cytology, and tumor size, in the prediction … Show more

“…At G3 CE where DIM was <50% there were 2 positive PLN (15,38%), while when DIM was >50% there were 6 positive PLN registred (26,73%). Muallem MZ et al discovered that when at G3 and with DIM >50%, the risk of PLN metastasis development is 3 -5 times bigger, which matches our stated results ( 13 , 14 ). If the risk rate is low at CE, PLN metastasis rate is low as well and vice versa.…”

“…At 164 patients (74,20%) whose tumour was bigger than 2 cm, 21 PLN metastases were registred (12,80%). This result implies that the tumour size is not an independant prognostic factor, as it was pointed out in other researches as well ( 4 , 6 , 14 , 15 ).…”

“…Patients often have postmenopausal uterine bleeding (Acmaz et al, 2014) that help to diagnos in early stages, and those with stage I EC have a survival rate of over 90% (Cetinkaya et al, 2014) however, stage III patients have a 5-year survival rate of around 60-75% (Neubauer and Lurain, 2011). Approximately 90% of endometrial cancers are sporadic, and 10% of them are hereditary (Prat et al, 2007).…”

“…Moreover pelvic lymph node metastasis risk is less than 5% in grade 1-2 tumors if the myometrial invasion is less than 50%; however it is approximately 15% in grade 1-2 tumors if the myometrial invasion is higher than 50% (Creasman et al, 1987). Myometrial invasion is an important predictor of lymph node metastasis (Cetinkaya et al, 2014). Patients have a low risk for nodal metastasis when the tumor size is ≤ 2cm, myometrial invasion is ≤1/2 and grade 1 histology is present.…”
