Abstract: Many young people who use the Internet encounter unwanted sexual overtures. Health care professionals, educators, and parents should be prepared to educate youth about how to respond to online sexual solicitations, including encouraging youth to disclose and report such encounters and to talk about them.

“…Results from this study showed that males were more likely to have unwanted exposure to online pornography, online sexual solicitation victimization and perpetration. Our results differed from those of prior studies that showed girls were more likely to encounter unwanted sexual materials (Sabina et al, 2008) and sexual solicitation (Baumgartner et al, 2010;Mitchell et al, 2001Mitchell et al, , 2007a. The results of this study showed that males had higher Internet risk behaviors and spent more time playing online games and in chat rooms, which probably provided more opportunities for involvement in online pornography exposure and sexual solicitation.…”

Interestingly, youth ages 13 to 15 were more likely to receive prevention messages, given by police or at school.…”
