Risk Factors for Advanced Colonic Neoplasia and Hyperplastic Polyps in Asymptomatic Individuals

Abstract: for the VA Cooperative Study Group 380 C OLORECTAL CANCER IS THE SECond leading cause of cancer death in North America. Evidence exists that screening asymptomatic populations beginning at age 50 years can reduce mortality due to colorectal cancer 1-8 and that removal of precursor adenomas may reduce the incidence of colorectal cancer. 9,10 Identification of important risk factors for advanced colonic neoplasia could inform both risk stratification and development of risk reduction strategies. Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD.
