Rigorous theory of molecular orientational nonlinear optics

Abstract: Classical statistical mechanics of the molecular optics theory proposed by Buckingham [A. D. Buckingham and J. A. Pople, Proc. Phys. Soc. A 68, 905 (1955)] has been extended to describe the field induced molecular orientational polarization effects on nonlinear optics. In this paper, we present the generalized molecular orientational nonlinear optical processes (MONLO) through the calculation of the classical orientational averaging using the Boltzmann type time-averaged orientational interaction energy in the… Show more

“…For the excited states, the Slater determinant with the highest weight was used, which was the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) – 3 → lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) for S 1 and HOMO – 2 → LUMO for T 2 . To compare with experiments performed in isotropic media, we take χ eff (3) = χ xyyx (3) + χ xyxy (3) . , …”

“…Quantum chemistry software packages, such as Dalton, can be used to quantify 𝜒 𝑒𝑓𝑓 (3) through response theory calculations that allow for the application of electronic structure theory to the calculation of tensor elements of the second order hyperpolarizability in the molecular frame (which is directly analogous to the lab frame bulk 𝜒 (3) ). [32][33][34][35] Additionally, detailed models that describe how particular classes of systems, like those of conjugated molecules, can also be used to describe how 𝜒 𝑒𝑓𝑓 (3) will evolve. 36,37 By translating model predictions of 𝜒 (3) to 𝜒 𝑒𝑓𝑓 (3) , these methods can be used to predict UTPS signals.…”

“…(1) [17] , perature increases, mobility will decrease due to the increase of phonon scattering [18][19][20] . Many theoretical studies have been performed to investigate the improvements in device performance by using dual gate (DG) MoS 2 transistors and graphene/MoS 2 heterostructures [21][22][23] . Also, there is a huge interest in downscaling the channel length to 5 nm and to studying critical problems such as the OFF-state leakage current and gate controllability over the channel [24] .…”
