Employment of the Internet of Things (IoT) technology in the healthcare field can contribute to recruiting heterogeneous medical devices and creating smart cooperation between them. This cooperation leads to an increase in the efficiency of the entire medical system, thus accelerating the diagnosis and curing of patients, in general, and rescuing critical cases in particular. In this paper, a large-scale IoT-enabled healthcare architecture is proposed. To achieve a wide range of communication between healthcare devices, not only are Internet coverage tools utilized but also satellites and high-altitude platforms (HAPs). In addition, the clustering idea is applied in the proposed architecture to facilitate its management. Moreover, healthcare data are prioritized into several levels of importance. Finally, NS3 is used to measure the performance of the proposed IoT-enabled healthcare architecture. The performance metrics are delay, energy consumption, packet loss, coverage tool usage, throughput, percentage of served users, and percentage of each exchanged data type. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed IoT-enabled healthcare architecture outperforms the traditional healthcare architecture.

Purpose (RFID) is a technology that uses radio waves for data collection and transfer, so data is captured efficiently, automatically and in real time without human intervention. This technology, alone or in addition to other technologies has been considered as a possible solution to reduce problems that endanger public health or to improve its management. This scoping review aims to provide readers with an up-to-date picture of the use of this technology in health care settings. Methods This scoping review examines the state of RFID technology in the healthcare area for the period 2017-2022, specifically addressing RFID versatility and investigating how this technology can contribute to radically change the management of public health. The guidelines of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) have been followed. Literature reviews or surveys were excluded. Only articles describing technologies implemented on a real environment or on prototypes were included. Results The search returned 366 results. After screening, based on title and abstract, 58 articles were considered suitable for this work. 11 articles were reviewed because they met the qualifying requirements. The study of the selected articles highlighted six matters that can be profitably impacted by this technology Conclusion The selected papers show that this technology can improve patient safety by reducing medical errors, that can occur within operating rooms. It can also be the solution to overcome the problem of the black market in counterfeiting drugs, or as a prevention tool. Further research is needed, especially on data management, security, and privacy, given the sensitive nature of medical information. Graphical Abstract

The implementation of RFID technology has globally impacted several industries and this revolution has improved the aspects of service delivery in many sectors, such as logistics, supply chain visibility, access control, military, and agri-food sector. RFID provides several security services to protect the data transmitted between a tag and a reader in the IoT environment. However, these advantages do not prevent an attacker to access this communication and remaining various security and privacy issues in these systems. Furthermore, with the rapid growth of IoT, there is an urgent need of security authentication and confidential data protection. Authentication protocols based on cryptographic primitives were widely investigated and implemented to guarantee protection against various attacks that can suffer an RFID system. Among those cryptosystems is the Elliptic Curve Integrated Encryption Scheme (ECIES), which can be found in several cryptographic standards. It offers mutual authentication and data integrity that has become highly employed in RFID applications. In this paper, we present a novel secure ECC-based RFID authentication protocol that meets the security needs of existing published protocols and ensures data confidentiality and privacy. Beforehand, we present an overview of some ECC-based RFID authentication protocols and highlight their security weaknesses against server spoofing, tracking, and impersonation attacks.. After that, a comparative study with existing protocols in terms of computational performance and security strength is performed. Finally, our protocol is analyzed and verified with the Automated Validation of Internet Security Protocols and Applications (AVISPA) analysis tool after being modeled in High Level Protocol Specification Language (HLPSL).
