Abstract: This biennial Review summarizes much of particle physics. Using data from previous editions, plus 2158 new measurements from 551 papers, we list, evaluate, and average measured properties of gauge bosons, leptons, quarks, mesons, and baryons. We also summarize searches for hypothetical particles such as Higgs bosons, heavy neutrinos, and supersymmetric particles. All the particle properties and search limits are listed in Summary Tables. We also give numerous tables, figures, formulae, and reviews of topics s… Show more

“…For notational simplicity, we choose to absorb in the pion mass m π a correction ∝m 2 . At ∆ = 1, the leading electromagnetic contribution to the pion mass splitting appears,δm [54], is dominated by the electromagnetic contribution. The nucleon kinetic terms have ∆ = 0, 1.…”

“…Again for simplicity, the average nucleon mass m N absorbs a correction ∝m, the sigma term. Entering at ∆ = 1, 2, the nucleon mass splitting, m n − m p = δm N +δm N = 1.29 MeV [54] also receives contributions from electromagnetism and from the quark masses. In this case, the quark-mass contribution δm N is expected to be the largest.…”

“…In the strong sector, the quark flavour model has a missing resonance problem since it predicts many more baryon πN-resonances than observed [2,3,4]. The quark colour model (QCD) has a confinement problem to construct hadrons analytically from quarks and gluons.…”

“…It is also customary to refer to the spectrum m 3 > m 2 > m 1 as "normal", in which case ∆m 2 31 > 0, while the m 2 > m 1 > m 3 spectrum is referred to as "inverted," in which case ∆m 2 31 < 0. Once the neutrino mass eigenstates are properly defined, it is also customary to parametrise U as prescribed in the Particle Data Book [18]. The neutrino mixing angles (θ ij ) are related to the mixing-matrix elements by:…”

“…The intensities considered to be the goals are 1.1 × 10 18 ions per year for 18 Ne and 2.9 × 10 18 ions per year for 6 He [145]. For some time it was not quite clear whether these ion intensities are feasible, but recent developments within EUROnu indicate that, for 18 Ne, the required intensity can be achieved [146].…”
