Abstract: Obesity-related renal diseases have been a worldwide issue. Effective strategy that prevents high fat-diet induced renal damage is of great significance. Resveratrol, a natural plant polyphenol, is famous for its antioxidant activity, cardioprotective effects and anticancer properties. However whether resveratrol can play a role in the treatment of renal diseases is unknown. In this study, we added resveratrol in normal glucose or high glucose medium and provide evidences that resveratrol protects against high… Show more

“…Inhibition SIRT1 exacerbates oxidative stress-suppressed autophagy in stem cells [35]. Downregulation of SIRT1 signals is involved in the HFD-induced renal dysfunction in mice [36]. SIRT1 activator suppresses hyperglycemia-induced apoptosis of podocytes via autophagy activation in diabetic mice with nephropathy [37].…”

“…46 In addition to senescence, it is therefore likely that these senolytics may produce health benefits by targeting other aging-related pathways. “…For instance, resveratrol protects human endothelial cells and fibroblasts against stress-induced senescence. 59,60 While a high level of stress is detrimental to cells and organs, mild stress may be beneficial by activating cellular defense mechanisms, such as autophagy, mitochondrial biogenesis, DNA repair, and expression of antioxidant and detoxifying enzymes. [6][7][8]61,62 By inducing these cellular protective mechanisms, senomorphic compounds may lower the level of cellular stress, therefore preventing cells from entering senescence or apoptosis.…”

“…For example, epigallocatechin-3-gallate and quercetin, two common polyphenols in tea, fruits and vegetables, are able to delay replicative senescence in chronically treated cells, and reduce expression of interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8 and IL-1 β that are components of SASP in human foreskin fibroblasts during stress induced senescence13, 14. Resveratrol protects human lung fibroblasts against high-glucose triggered oxidative stress and cellular senescence 15 . However, resveratrol also induced senescence in human lung cancer cells 16 .…”
